A drivetrain malfunction can occur in your car's engine, transmission, or other parts of the drivetrain. While you might lose power or your car will shake, it often doesn't stop your car in the early stages. However, drivetrain malfunction is not something you should ignore. Check out these five common causes of a malfunction:
1. Old and Worn Spark Plugs
As your spark plugs begin to fail, they won't fire your engine properly. This can cause a misfire in your engine that triggers your drivetrain malfunction light to come on. Have your spark plugs replaced during an engine tune up.
2. Igniting Coil Failure
Your ignition coil takes the low voltage power from the battery and raises the power to start the engine in your car. Without the boost of power, your car engine struggles to start.
3. Damaged or Clogged Fuel Injectors
Fuel injectors push gasoline into your car's engine when it's needed to fuel the car. When the fuel injectors are clogged or damaged, they won't put gasoline in at the right time or put too little in to run the engine.
4. Faulty Fuel Pump
It's the job of your fuel pump to move gasoline from the tank into the engine as it's needed to run your car. When it begins to fail, it won't provide enough gasoline to your engine.
5. Poor Fuel Quality
You always want to make sure that you buy your gas from a reputable company. Poor fuel quality, even letting a car sit for months, can cause your engine to run improperly and cause the drivetrain to malfunction.
